But it's still probably the most liberal of Texas cities and offers a lot. Austin is not a huge city so there isn't a large selection of gay bars and businesses, and no real "gay ghetto" like larger cities have. are several blocks of mostly straight bars of all types. There are also several other gay bars and clubs scattered around. Oil Can Harry's and Boyz Cellar are right next to each other, with Rainbow Cattle Company a block away on 5th and The Forum nearby on Congress. Actually the gay bars in Austin are on most only 4th St. A new residential development project proposal would drastically change one of Austin’s essential LGBTQ neighborhoods, as reported by the Towers.The proposed plan would build a mixed-use tower on 201 to 213 West Fourth Street, which would demolish several important bars on the street, including Oilcan Harry’s, Coconut Club, Neon Grotto, and the shuttered Sellers Underground.
